Moncler, the luxury outerwear brand whose name is synonymous with its signature down-filled jackets, has released preview images of its first sunglasses collection, which has been produced following the recent licensing deal signed with eyewear group Marcolin.

The Moncler Lunettes collection features six models for men and women, evoking the brand's connection with winter sports, and will be available in Moncler boutiques, select concept and department stores and specialist opticians from next month.

Inspired by classic seventies ski goggle shapes the acetate ML0001 and the more feminine ML0002 models feature an embossed metal logo on the frame front and details on the temples designed to reference the "boudin" manufacturing effect distinctive of the cheap Moncler down jacket.

The acetate men's ML0003 and unisex ML0004 frames feature retro styling with removable leather side shields while the "aerodynamic temples" give the look of high altitude goggles. These styles are available in contrasting black and red, brown and yellow, deep blue and light blue, and black tone on tone colour combinations, with polarized or mirrored lenses.

Finally the collection is completed with the feminine round shape of the ML0005 frame and the squared silhouette of the unisex ML0006. The soft, exaggerated shape of the two acetate styles is designed to "recall the light and voluminous shape created by the down jacket".

"The strong cultural affinity between Moncler and Marcolin, two businesses which today represent Italian excellence, has made it possible to accept this new challenge with true determination. In doing so we have worked on a Moncler Lunettes collection in perfect keeping with the respective brand values. Research, tradition and attention to detail combined with outstanding Italian manufacturing guarantee eyewear products of the very highest quality," said Moncler chairman and CEO Remo Ruffini.

Moncler was founded near Grenoble in France in 1952 and is now headquartered in Italy. Ruffini joined the business in 2003 and it now manufactures and directly distributes the cheap moncler jackets and accessories collections Moncler Gamme Rouge, Moncler Gamme Bleu, Moncler Grenoble and Moncler Enfant through its own boutiques and select international department stores and multi-brand outlets.

Marcolin manufactures eyewear for a raft of luxury brands including Tom Ford, Balenciaga, Ermenegildo Zegna, Agnona, Montblanc, Roberto Cavalli, Tod's, Emilio Pucci, Swarovski, Dsquared2 and Diesel.
